What You Can Do
1) Urge your members of Congress to co-sponsor H.Res.130, which is a bipartisan resolution supporting peace envoy George Mitchell’s mission for a diplomatic resolution of the Arab-Israeli conflict.
2) Keep engaging with your member of Congress to resolve this conflict, and inform yourself of their positions.
- The House and Senate passed one-sided resolutions during the fighting in Gaza that did not call on both Israelis and Palestinians to implement an immediate ceasefire.
- Sixty-four members wrote to the Obama administration in support of emergency reconstruction and humanitarian aid in Gaza.
- Read statements from members of Congress calling for a diplomatic resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Churches for Middle East Peace, a coalition of which FCNL is a member, compiled the statements.
3) Inform yourself about what the Obama administration and Congress can do to take the necessary steps for Israeli-Palestinian peace.
- Read FCNL’s letter to Congress advocating robust U.S. diplomacy to lift the blockade of Gaza and end rocket fire into Israel, a war crimes investigation in the fighting in Gaza, and inclusion of Hamas in political process. Read statements from former Israeli defense officials and others arguing that Israel and the U.S. must talk to Hamas.
